This blog is dedicated to my four nieces, Cameron, Ella, Brigitte and Chase. I have no children of my own, so these girls are my world. I’m grateful to my sister Mary and sister-in-law Natalie for giving birth to them. I’m not sure I would have made a great mother, but I’m damn sure I’m an amazing aunt.
Growing up, I had an influential aunt who inspired me. Her name was Aunt Lorraine. There are so many “Aunt Lorraine” tips on life, fashion, love and more which I still use today. Some of my favorites include:
- Sometimes you have to suffer for fashion; that’s why you should wear heels.
- You don’t have a ring on your finger so you are still single.
- No is a complete sentence. If you don’t want to do something, just say no. No explanation is needed. You could be painting your nails for all they know.
Aunt Lorraine died in her early 50’s of pancreatic cancer. At the time, I felt like I had lost my best friend. She treated me like her daughter. One of our favorite activities was shopping. Aunt Lorraine loved to shop for quality clothes and accessories. When she died, she had closets full of leather suits, fitted blazers, expensive purses and pricey shoes. She and I wore the same size clothing and shoes so I inherited a wardrobe full of quality clothes and heels which I still wear. I like to say the items are from my “AL” collection.
Since I buy most of my clothes at Goodwill, I won’t have an amazing wardrobe to pass down to my nieces. That’s why I hope this blog of advice will suffice.
